There Goes John's Pants Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
Saturday August 24, 2002
First, in case you're worried that I've starved my dog... He's fine. We've been running several times and he keeps up as well as he can in the heat. He's back to his old hyperactive but lazy self. Who knows what the deal was in Virginia. I'm going with the assumption it was was a one-time thing.
Now, back to the ongoing drama of my clothing. ThereGoesJohn's pants. Props to Pete Salkowski, our staff board-certified arborist, for coming up with that one. Maybe you had to be there, but we had quite a laugh at work.
"They're probably plaid." The pants I'd previously mentioned as being just right in fact were not. The 32" inseam was too short and I didn't realize till I wore them around all day at work. So they got sent back to Campmor. I found a pair of Patagonias on Sierra Trading Post that looked more like my size. There seems to be some confusion about whether they're 33" or 34" inseams, but they're definitely longer than the ExOfficio's I had. Also, no one seems to agree on what color they are. They're some sort of tan. Sounded like a J. Crew color but I can't remember it. They're probably plaid.
And... I've updated my plans to reflect my latest thoughts on where I'm going. Part of that is that plans for the cross-country road trip with Edan my friend from Illinois may actually happen. He doesn't have time to drive all the way back from San Francisco, so we'll have to drive something one-way. The problem is a rental car's over a thousand dollars for a one-way.
"You just have to be lucky enough..." So I started looking on the internet for a service that matches up people who want to drive cross-country with people who need their cars transported. And whaddya know... there's such a thing. It's driveaway.com. They keep an updated list of where cars need to be taken from and to. Then three days before your trip you look to see if there's a car near you. They charge a fee and take a huge deposit, but it's way, way cheaper than renting. You just have to be lucky enough to have a car near you that's going your way.
Since Edan and I are more interested in the trip than the destination, maybe we can just take whatever car's near us that's headed for the West Coast. We can drop it off in LA, Portland, Seattle... wherever... then he can fly back and I head toward San Francisco. Or maybe we'll luck into finding a car going straight to SF. Who knows.
