Delay of Game
Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
Wednesday October 23, 2002

I'm staying another couple of weeks. This means my departure from Cincinnati moves from November first to like the 16th. It could be even another week past that, but we'll see as we get closer.

As I mentioned earlier it's because it took a little longer than planned to find a replacement for me. She starts on Monday and I think she'll get up to speed very quickly. But November ratings starts a week from tomorrow and it'll be good to have an extra person around for a while.

Since my apartment was already rented starting almost as soon as I move out, the station's putting me up in a place downtown. I think it's pretty nice. It's one of those semi-high rises that looks like a hotel but is actually condos. They rent some of the furnished ones week-to-week. I always thought about living downtown while I was here and never did. This'll be a nice way to round out four years in Cincinnati.

"The Cincinnati Post is gonna do a story on my trip."
And get this... it would seem the Cincinnati Post is gonna do a story on my trip. I sent out some press releases a couple of weeks ago. Somebody said I should and I did it almost as a joke. I didn't really expect anyone to call. But a freelance reporter who does their web stuff called today. She was very cool and said she was jealous of my getting to go. That was nice to hear, after a long string of you're-gawnna-git-killt's in the last few weeks.

Sounds like it's a little more than a blurb about a website. There's a photographer coming next week to get a shot of me. I think it'll be fun. Except one thing. I'm starting to think that as more people start reading this site, the things I can talk about are limited. But I guess that's not true. I'll just write about what I please and people can choose not to read if they so desire.

"Graduation programs, high school pins..."
I actually started packing last weekend. That's always an odd experience. Moving time is the only time I see all the trinkets and souvenirs I keep for no good reason. I have about four milk crate sized boxes full of little things I've accumulated over the years. They're not nice enough to display anywhere but they're a little too sentimental to throw away. Graduation programs, high school pins, a prom champagne glass, and for some reason a Jenny Jones keychain. Can't explain that one. I usually forget half of them even exist until I start packing them up again. I guess everybody has a few of these things.

Even though I'm sticking around, I'm still loading up the truck and heading to Virginia a week from Friday. I'll unload stuff at my Mom's, return the truck, and get dropped off at the bus station in Corbin, Kentucky on Sunday night. It'll be my first Greyhound trip in five years... and only my second ever.

And by the way... Mom's dog Puddin, a very active six-year-old Chocolate Lab, tore her ACL a few weeks ago. She'll need surgery. It's fairly routine and Nielsen and I are hoping for the best for her.
