I used to curse American drivers for not yielding to pedestrians.

I used to curse American civil engineers for designing roads that aren't pedestrian friendly.

I still do.

But now I've seen Mexico.

"...if still a little life-threatening."
I get the idea that pedestrians don't have the right of way here. That's fine. But you can't cross most streets at intersections. You just have to do your best in the middle of the blocks. It's nothing terrible. In fact it can be a little exciting. But it makes a casual stroll quite exhilirating sometimes. And it makes going running completely impossible in the city. But in the high-rent hotel zone where we're staying, it's possible, if still a little life-threatening, to run and I've managed to do so a few times.

Sorry I haven't updated the website in so long. We've been staying in one of the resort hotels a few miles from downtown. They charge $6 an hour for internet. Here in downtown it's $1.

"Giant optician sunglasses and pastel pants."
Not a lot to write about. Lots of laying on beaches, reading, and laying on beaches. We're headed out to Chichen Itza tomorrow to see the ruins. Supposedly it's the biggest and best-restored of the Mayan ruins. Of course it's also the most tourist-packed. We're taking one of the tourist buses to get there. You know... the ones you see old people with giant optician sunglasses and pastel pants stumbling off of in Vegas?

I'm kind of a stowaway at the hotel. The management doesn't know I'm staying there and apparantly they're pretty strict about how many are in their rooms. So I've been forced to hide my backpack and scurry to the confines of the balcony whenever there's a knock at the door. This also adds some excitement to the experience.

Jeez, John! Stowing away in a Mexican hostel sounds more than just a little dangerous! Hope your trip isn't unexpectedly curtailed because you're going to need to spend some time in a Mexican prison!!
The website, your photos and commentaries are lots of fun. Keep up the great work and keep having a great time.
Somehow, we're managing to muddle through here at ol' Number Five without you. Mina is a riot. Still miss you, though.

take good care,
Brink
