Sick Day San Pedro Sula, Cortes, Honduras
Sunday March 16, 2003
I decided that if I was sick and couldn't do anything at least I could ride a bus all day and put some distance behind me. Bad idea. I was on three buses for a total of about ten hours. You may recall the eustation tube description during an earlier illness. Same thing. Driving over mountains with my head about to explode as the atmospheric pressure wreaked havoc with my eardrums.
To make things even better I arrive ten hours later in San Pedro Sula, Honduras and it's about 100 degrees. No kidding. So I check myself into a hotel with air conditioning and lay around all day. I leave only to buy a few things to eat and put some new photos on the website.
"The species-ending superbug that's floating around." And as I'm laying in my sick bed coughing up various unspeakable things and watching CNN what do I hear about but the new deadly super pneumonia that's killing people. It seems they've closed Asia. The entire continent. I'm left to hope what's brewing in my chest isn't the species-ending superbug that's floating around.
San Pedro's a nice enough place if you don't mind the heat and don't require many activities for tourists to enjoy. It's your typical industrial, business-centered city that doesn't offer a lot to visitors. But it's an OK place to wait out a cold. I'll hang out tonight and see how I feel in the morning. If I'm any better I'll head for the capital of Tegucigalpa and on to Nicaragua after a brief visit to a national park near there.
