Stop Your Crying Buenos Aires, Captial Federal, Argentina

I've been humming a Madonna song all day long. This morning I went with Dick, the Dutch guy I originally met in Peru, to the Pink House. This, I think, is the Argentinian version of the White House and is where Evita gave the famous speech from the balcony. Frankly I don't know enough about the whole Peron thing and really only know that Madonna re-recorded a song about it. But I've been humming "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" since noon.
No apartment till Friday. I was lucky just to get one, though. Turns out they fill up quite quickly and there was only one left when I arrived. It was a bit pricey and absolutely tiny. But the one I wanted comes open on Friday so I'm just gonna wait and move in then.

I'll still have three full weeks of apartment living. Dick's here till the weekend when he flies off to Easter Island, so I'll probably keep busy enough to not miss being in my own place yet.
"I wouldn't bother going if it weren't Uruguay." Tomorrow is Uruguay. There's a town called Colonia not far away by boat that's supposed to be quite nice. Honestly I probably wouldn't bother going if it weren't in Uruguay, but why come within an hour's boat ride and not see something in Uruguay. I hear this city is (or was, before the collapse) a popular daytrip for folks from Buenos Aires.
I continue to be quite impressed with Buenos Aires. I keep looking for signs of the economic disasters and just continue finding more and more nice, posh parts of town. In the city at least it seems there's still plenty of money floating around. The only glaring evidence of the troubles is the banks. In some parts of town, particularly near the government centers, they are completely shielded over with metal. What were all-glass lobbies and windows are now covered over with well-worn metal I sure was hastily installed in December 2001.
